Cardiac rhythm monitoring evaluates the electrical activity of the heart over an extended period of time to detect intermittent arrhythmias that may not appear during a brief in-office EKG.

Our practice utilizes Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT) — an advanced monitoring system that continuously records heart rhythm and transmits data in real time for analysis.

Monitoring duration may range from 48 hours up to 30 days, depending on clinical indication.

Unlike traditional Holter monitors that store data for later review, MCT provides near real-time arrhythmia detection and reporting.

Mobile cardiac telemetry provides extended, real-world rhythm surveillance that complements in-office EKG and stress testing.

It allows precise diagnosis of intermittent arrhythmias and supports individualized rhythm management strategies.

By utilizing real-time monitoring technology, the practice enhances both diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.

Mobile cardiac telemetry may be recommended for:

  • Palpitations

  • Irregular heartbeat

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

  • Unexplained fainting (syncope)

  • Suspected atrial fibrillation

  • Stroke evaluation

  • Intermittent tachycardia or bradycardia

  • Post-procedure rhythm surveillance

  • Medication efficacy monitoring

Because many arrhythmias are intermittent, short in-office testing may miss the diagnosis. Extended monitoring improves detection.

MCT can identify:

  • Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter

  • Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)

  • Ventricular tachycardia

  • Bradycardia and pauses

  • Heart block

  • Premature atrial or ventricular contractions

  • Intermittent conduction abnormalities

Real-time transmission allows clinically significant arrhythmias to be identified promptly rather than weeks later.

This enhances both diagnostic accuracy and safety.

A small wearable monitoring device is applied to the chest using adhesive electrodes.

  • The device continuously records heart rhythm

  • Data is transmitted wirelessly for analysis

  • Monitoring may last from 2 days to 30 days

  • Patients may press an event button if symptoms occur

  • Normal daily activities can continue

The device is lightweight and designed for outpatient use.

At the conclusion of the monitoring period, a comprehensive report is generated summarizing rhythm findings.

No special preparation is required.

Patients should:

  • Inform the office of any adhesive allergies

  • Avoid submerging the device in water unless instructed

  • Keep the monitor charged (if applicable)

  • Record symptoms when they occur

Detailed instructions are provided at the time of device placement.

Mobile cardiac telemetry is non-invasive and low risk.

Possible minor issues include:

  • Skin irritation from adhesive electrodes

  • Mild discomfort at the application site

The device records electrical activity only; it does not deliver electrical therapy.

After completion of monitoring:

  • A detailed rhythm analysis report is reviewed

  • Findings are discussed with you

  • If arrhythmias are detected, treatment options are outlined

  • Medication adjustments or further testing may be recommended

  • Referral for electrophysiology evaluation may be considered when appropriate

In cases of significant real-time findings, earlier clinical follow-up may be initiated.
